Thanks Joanne! I’m getting used to it and am still a bit squeaky. I just realised that I made my backing track very loud in comparison, so apologies to listeners for that!

I’ve just bought myself a full size electric violin and am very excited moving up from the 3/4 I’ve been playing. I’ve joined the local ukelele club and have my first public gig with them coming up, so really want to get my accompaniment right. They do their own version of Fisherman’s Blues and I loved the solo that Jason taught, so I thought…[Read more]

Well done James! I need to do a lot more practice. Oh I wish I could do double stops without strangling my fiddle!

Wow! Now I want to learn the banjo too! It sounded really good and I think you should also do a lesson on how you did the video – It’s a great idea to create your own accompaniment. Thanks for posting!

Well done Owen! Haven’t heard that tune before but really like it. Obviously a challenging one, but look forward to learning it one day! Thanks for sharing – it always inspires watching and hearing someone else play!

Thanks everyone! I’m looking forward to progressing onto the next version of it with embellishments that Jason said he’d post. Still need to work on the bow hand though.

Cool slides and really liked the sound you made and groove you had. I didn’t recognise it as Will the Circle be Unbroken, but that may be because of the tuning of your violin. Next time record yourself playing along with the track so when you listen back you can identify the parts you need to work on. I’ve been playing 18months now and have imp…[Read more]

Well done, Tom! It’s a lovely waltz. I’m finding timing can be tricky, so I’m trying to count myself in and stamp my foot as I play along with the drone. Doesn’t always work though!

Very impressive for just learning the song! I wish I could play at that speed, but it just gets messy!

Sounds great, Joanne! Nice slides and great idea using the raagini drone and beat. Love this song too and want to learn the Jack Black version’s violin accompaniment- That would be a good call and response lesson, Jason!

Well done, Mary. It’s a lovely tune and got my fiddle out to play along. Have to say I love your grimaces when you play – I do them too. I try really hard not to frown or twitch, but my concentration when I play takes over my face. I need Jason to do a lesson on how to do a ‘happy fiddle face’!

Kate,
Sounds great your playing with the Ukulele Club! Wish we could do that here, but Covid is still ravaging; sometimes as many as 4,000 deaths/day here in the US….-
