So wonderful, Marg! I’ve been out of the loop for a while so good to check out the forum and be reinspired! Lovely melody, lyrical and happy. Great work from the band too. A very fun way to play with pentatonic scales!

That was lovely Debbie! I haven’t heard that one before but love the double stops too. Something I don’t try enough. It’s inspiring to see you use them to such affect.

Thanks, Jason. I’m not sure if there is a particular method of choosing songs to play together in a set. Hope to see you post something with strum machine soon, Patty! It’s a great tool.

Nice embellishments, Joanne! Great Irish feel. I haven’t quite worked out the difference between a mordent and a roll yet – have to the Irish fiddle journey. Slides will be my next challenge though, because they are very cool!

You’re right, Joanne, it is fantastic that we can get inspired and play along and try new things through this Fiddlehed forum. I’ve learnt so much by watching you all and it has motivated me to keep going and challenge myself. I wish our time zones were more compatible for participating in group sessions, because they look so much fun. But it’…[Read more]

Thanks Debbie and Marg. I would like to create a harmony myself, but it was fun to hear it played together. It’s taken me a while to attempt vibrato without destroying the tune in the attempt. Certainly don’t feel in control or confident with my technique – I still tense up and grip the neck when I should relax my left hand. Then when I focus on…[Read more]

I’ve been working on vibrato and Ashokan farewell seemed an appropriate tune to practice on, with a little harmonisation I learnt https://youtu.be/utqDjGY-dEM

Thanks Marg! You were the inspiration with your medley. I think strum machine is a good way to build up speed on songs. I really liked how the songs in your medley interwove so beautifully. That may be a good thing for Jason to teach or discuss – how to compile a complimentary set.

Thanks for your feedback! I’ve been really working on my bow hold and having a flexible and not rigid hand to work towards smooth changes – a work in progress but finally seeing some improvement. The selection of songs is pretty random, just songs I liked and wanted to improve, or try variation on. The main challenge was doing a set of something a…[Read more]

I was inspired by Marg, so got the strum machine app and threw myself the challenge of doing a medley. So hard! Good practice at listening though!

That sounded great! Your violin sounded beautiful, why bother with an electric when you can get such good sound with what you’ve got? Loved your improve. What did you use as a backing track?
