Here is my first attempt at recording both parts of a duet and splicing them together. Duet part starts around 0:30 after a first verse solo:
A bit choppy in parts and for some reason the second part crept in a bit from the left edge of the screen… but whatever… It’s worth 6 more entries for fiddle giveaway draw!!

@jasonkleinberg it’s a Focusrite Scarlett. I just got the studio set as a birthday present so learning how to use it! Not too familiar with Fiddler on the Roof film but have seen it on stage many times.

I always loved this tune from one of my favourite musicals, never thought I’d be able to play it! Thanks for the lesson Jason!

Brilliant Mary! When I first learnt that tune I couldn’t play 4th finger so for 2months I could only play the A-part!

It was the first one I’ve been able to join too. In the UK it’s 8pm on a Saturday so not usually good for me but I’m glad I did. Tom from BC had a really useful chord chart he’d found. I’m meeting up with a lady I met for another practice together today as we found we are at a similar level & can learn from each other & have fun!
I’m finding it…[Read more] -

Following our chord chat at Saturday’s student hangout, here’s my first attempt at playing chords along to Jason’s backing track!
Warning-it’s a bit pitchy😆 I’m struggling to keep the double stops even so relax by playing the tune a bit too! It’s definitely work in progress for me, I think.

Lovely playing James! I wish I could bring in double stops that don’t sound like an accident! I usually find it takes me 2 days to learn the A part nevermind being able to play a whole tune without reading!

Thanks Carolyn & Cindy! It’s certainly a beautiful sounding violin. I feel really excited & motivated now to improve my playing to do it justice. I made my choice after whittling down the selection to 3 or 4 & was really interested to hear the difference in the tone & sound of them all. Apparently in general, German violins tend to have a bright &…[Read more]

After 2 years learning with a student fiddle I decided to invest in my “forever fiddle”. My local music shop kindly sourced a number of beautiful old German fiddles from around the country as they thought they would suit the Celtic & Old Time tunes I like to play. After a few hours of playing & listening I finally plumped for this old & well worn…[Read more]

Thank you @kate-kakadu and @cynhrossi for kind words. I find slow songs like those are a great break from the harder work of double stops, metronome and speed challenges!

Thanks @cynhrossi !
It took me a while to get the playing with a metronome thing! I started by just playing a note with a beat and actually found it easier at first to play with the drum patterns that are on the site at Beat Central. Jason has a really useful video on “how to play with a metronome” it certainly on his YouTube channel if not on…[Read more] -

Thank you, Eimear! The baby seal is my favourite as well, but the baby donkey and the hairy coo are close second and third.
Those songs and pics really make me want to hop over the pond again soon.
