Thanks for your kind comments cbfidhed and Brian, your encouragement is much appreciated.
Yes, it’s a great tune, I hope you both have as much fun playing it as I do.:)

    Hi Katrina,
Thanks for your feedback, and it’s good to know there’s other Australian fiddleheds out there. I live at Coolangatta, but not the one near Brisbane. We’re in a little rural area near Shoalhaven Heads 2 and a half hours south of Sydney NSW. Our Coolangatta got it’s name from the indigenous Mount Cullunghutti.

This was wonderful to watch and listen! Thanks for sharing! I hope I can play this song one day since it sounds beautiful!

Marg, you sound wonderful!! Very smooth bowing and a lot of life to your performance. I’ve been playing this tune myself a lot lately, and I appreciate what you’ve done with it.

Sounds great! I started today trying to learn to play the fiddle and I wish I could play like you can.

This is really good Kate, nice sound! It’s a tricky tune to master this well.

    Hi Marg

I thought your playing, particularly your intonation was good. I live in Brisbane Australia. Where are you? Katrina

Kate your playing sounds spot on! Notes are clear and great intonation, nice bounce to the rhythm too. It’s good to read how others are approaching their practice and I think Jason’s methods and encouragement are hugely supportive.
Thanks for posting the link to the Drifters as well, I love how they gradually build from a simple tune to play…[Read more]

Thanks, Michael! This was one of the most challenging pieces I’ve attempted so far, and my goal was to conquer those string crossings. Still working on that, but after about 40 attempts at recording I decided to go ahead and post this to leave room for improvement.

Great job! That tune looks like it has a lot of tricky string crossings – I’m impressed with how well you navigate them. The double stop at the end was great too.

I’ve been trying to improve my tone. I felt that my left hand has been very muddy, so wanted to some how make it sing. I’ve been doing a lot of vibrato practice, looking at a range of YouTube techniques, mainly arm vibrato. Jason’s songs are always so tuneful, so I’ve been listening a lot to how he does his notes a…[Read more]

Wow, only 7 months Keith? You must have done some serious practice to reach this level! Great slides and double stops, and I think just the right amount. Enough to add interest without being too much of a good thing. I started working on this tune last night, struggling with the separate 1, slur 3 bowing in module 2.1, but will keep working on it.…[Read more]

Great Mary! You really kept the pulse going with Strum Machine.
I like your idea of making a heritage set, a nice way to honour your great grandfather. Mine was a fiddler too, who migrated to Australia from Scotland. I would love to know the tunes he played as a dance band musician. Unfortunately all I have is a very old tin photo of him and his…[Read more]
