Just checking this out. I’m meeting with two other fiddlers from the group lessons we’ve been doing on Saturday. IT’s been fun and instructive. I, too, am in eastern daylight savings. Mary

I play piano as well so I think that have given me an advantage. It gets better the longer I use it. Have noticed an improvement over just a little time. Thanks for the Session info on the tune. I love the history of tunes.

Who is Hobart, I wonder?

A couple of theories on origins of Hobart, listed in this post on The Session: https://thesession.org/tunes/8961

So, I’m learning how to bow separate one, slur three using Bile me cabbage down. How do I decide when to separate one, slur three, when to slur four (this seems like the best choice to me) and to just separate bows. I am finding it difficult to change the pattern I have already learned. Thanks . -

Have been amazed at my improvement using my pinky finger this week. It is getting stronger. Not there yet but it’s coming along nicely. Working on Hobart’s Transformation and Flop Eared Mule. Enjoyed transposing some older tunes into other keys. Great fun this fiddling stuff.

Good to hear this!

Sounds like you are doing great. There are some pieces that I seem to move along better on with a bit of a swing to the tempo. I probably should put more thought to…

Understood. My parents are just getting over COVID at 88 and 84. It’s not fun. We thought we might lose them both but are making the road to recovery. We are blessed. -

What is a Covid ankle bracelet? I’m curious.

🤣. They have me on lockdown so I won’t get Covid. It’s my crazy term for their protectiveness.

I’m glad they’re on the mend. I know numerous people who have died with it. I’m 85 and have weathered a lot but have no desire to make that one of the list. So I tolerate the imaginary ankle bracelet with a smile.

Hey, I’ve been playing a little over a year but only since March with Jason’s program. I am just starting the immediate level lessons. I have played piano and sung for many years so I read music and struggle with ear training.
You?-
Hi Mary, I’ve been playing violin for just over a year too. I started with the beginner’s course because I really had no idea about bowing etc, though I have played oth…

Review Tobin’s Jig this afternoon and recorded it with the low fiddle play-along track. Love those and the full track. Thanks, Jason, for making learning to fiddle fun.

Anyone open to a group practice session? I have been playing about a year. Working on module 1.10. I’m in eastern time zone. Any afternoon/evening time works for me except Wednesday.
-
I’m just coming into the friends section and, yes, I would love a group practice session I really miss the jam group I was in and would like to show some sort of improvement when we can resume.
-
I’m eastern time zone and for the most part any time is good. My kids have a Covid ankle bracelet on me. A bit of preplanning would probably be best.
