Great Job! Our group of 3 has talked about a video collaboration in the past, but it never happened. Maybe this is the prod that we need to get going.

So I did. I wasn’t aware who might have been there that day, but I’m glad someone picked it up. Your versions sounds really good already.

I think it’s a relatively easy tune to learn and it is beautiful. It has become one of my go-to tunes to start a practice session and if anyone is willing to listen!

Thanks for sharing that, Kevin! I discovered the same tune and its sad back story earlier this year, and since i cound not find any sheet music online, I had to figure it out by ear and learn it that way; likely same as you?

Eventually, I reached out to Kirstie Mclanaghan over facebook to thank her for writing it. She was happy to hear someone…[Read more]

I added a couple of links in the Youtube description. If you click the “Watch on YouTube” link, you can see them in the description under the video.

Thanks. A agree totally with the need for momore repirition, but at 7:30, I was already well over the 5:000 suggested in Jason’s email.

And sory about no comments. I find this forum site is often a bit flakey. I tryied to put links in my original post, but it wouldnt post them. Then I posted the video with just a single line of comment above and…[Read more]

    Jocelyn,

Thank you for sharing this. I love the music by Vasen and that nyckelharpa is such an interesting instrument.

I would love to hear your audio file. When I try to play it, or even download and play it, on my iPad I get no sound whatsoever and an error message accompanying the file.

Joanne, you sound AMAZING! I can’t believe how far and fast you’ve gone with your fiddling. Plus you have the courage to perform in public, in a bar in Spain, no less. Congratulations!!

Marg, you sound wonderful!! Very smooth bowing and a lot of life to your performance. I’ve been playing this tune myself a lot lately, and I appreciate what you’ve done with it.

Thanks for posting, Mary, and Congratulations on your first public performance! Seems like a very challenging piece going into the upper hand position(s?) and switching to a backup track part way through. Well done!

    – Warmed up with C major scales and variations, also D major and A major.
    – Practiced Jason’s Smiling Bows.
    – Worked on vibrato exercises with metronome for a significant time.
    – Played White Christmas with vibrato.
    – Will sleep in compression gloves. Really helps with muscle recovery after vibrato and bowing exercises.

Tom replied to the topic Day 5 – Fiddler's Green in the forum Student Videos 4 years, 7 months ago

    Thanks Kate.

Fiddler’s Green is not on the Fiddlehed site, but it would be a great teaching tune either late beginner or early intermediate.
    – Key of G major
    – Fairly simple chord progression using G, C, D chords and one E minor
. E minor chord is (E-G-B). C chord is (C-E-G), so I used E-G double stop for both (G0-D1). Not sure if…[Read more]

I recorded three videos using the built-in camera on my HP all-in-one Windows 10 PC, along with an attached USB microphone (Blue Yeti): first, playing the main melody; then a separate video playing chords while listening to the first video on headphones; then the third video, recording vocals while listening to the first video again. This way the…[Read more]

No formal online session today, so I assembled this arrangement with chords and vocals.

Fiddler’s Green is a place I hear tell,
Where fishermen go when they don’t go to hell…
Where the weather is fair and the dolphins do play
And the cold coast of Greenland is far, far away…

Sunset serenade with my sweetie (Louise, my wife), playing a rusty rendition of “Shenandoah” on a Newfoundland beach. Well, geologically speaking as a geek, western Newfoundland is the northern end of the Appalachian Mountains, so I guess it fits, sort of(?)

Thanks, @jasonkleinberg. I used Adobe Premiere Elements…obviously not well (improperly placed video image of backup), but it has potential for next time if I can be a bit more careful.
