I decided to learn a couple things at once with the speed challenge. I’ve been wanting to figure out how to do split clips with iMovie, so this is a first. Since playing with others is one of the things I like the best, I chose the only other person in the house who plays anything–me. I plan on adding variations as I go along. It wasn’t easy to…[Read more]

A FiddleHed named Malik asked “Can you explain for me what a G-Clef is?”
The fancy scroll with a tail that appears at the beginning of fiddle music is called the treble clef.
The other name for it is […]

Hopefully this won’t break the spell, @kvmceff but actually Neil Gow’s second ‘wife’ was his violin, which he accidentally damaged beyond repair. Some say he sat on it, but I don’t know if that’s true.

Really nice bowing, Jenny; with smooth slurring, too. I really enjoyed it.

Really enjoyed the Angelina Baker session. Lot of room for improv, variation and ornamentation .

I’ve been reading The War of Art, which is about overcoming resistance in creative work. Though I’ve been making things my whole life, I still have to do battle with Resistance.

Love the raga blend!

love this jason! i liked the conversations about it being too weird for fiddlers and too normal for the experimental lovers. I guess a better way to look at it is its the best of both worlds, and hopefully for everyone. it sounds like a shuti box! have you ever heard or used one? I’ve been really wanting one for a long time. i love drone music which is why i first got interested in violin. anyway i wanted to share this video with you if i can. its my favorite shuti box performance I’ve ever seen. beautiful, and maybe an inspiration in there somewhere for fiddlers? i don’t know. https://youtu.be/hEzO947WtZU

That is beautiful, exotic….love it! I want to learn to play it :).
