Here’s a short summary of what I practiced during the OPS:
Here’s an outline of what I practiced:
– [[Practice tip]]: Vary the volume
– Warming with something easier: old-time tunes I just learned. Still not totally memorized.
– [[Rochester Scottische]]
– working out a way to play it that…[Read more] -

How To Enjoy Practicing Violin
Overview Practice does not have to suck. Shift your mindset. Give yourself permission to enjoy it. What can you change so that it’s fun? What […]-
This is great to hear Pete. I talk a lot about Deliberate Practice, but there’s a lot of value in balancing DropBox with exploration and fun 💃🏻

Glad to hear this resonated with you. It’s something I’ve also been working on. Finding a good balance between focus and wandering.

Yes! “You’re a musician if you play every day.” I say it a lot…but it’s useful.

What’s challenging? What’s going well?
If you’re serious about learning chord backup, then be sure to take the last Chord Backup Workshop I gave. In it I suggested you learn just three chords and then practice chord backup on 10-20 songs. Doing that prepares you to understand theory.
Next month we’ll do another workshop on chord backup on April…[Read more]

You’re on the right track, just by being aware of it.
And that analytical part of you is good. Just tell it to take a step back once in awhile so you can play. Then allow it to step forward and help you improve.

I’m constantly trying to correct my posture while playing. I “crunch” my neck and then find myself hurting. Then my fiddle “tips” in my hands and under my chin. Harder to remember to correct posture when I’m in the zone!

Clenching the strings when I try to learn something new…which of course, makes it harder!!! Focusing on playing more relaxed…

I’ve had this bad habit of raising my first finger in the air when I play fourth finger (pinky). I had a good teacher as a kid named Mrs. Osborn who tried to break the habit without breaking my love of music. I still do this. I don’t think it held me back too much. But now I want to try to re-train my hand. Let’s see if this old dog can learn a…[Read more]
