Tom- @tomr
Steve- @ripton
Caren- @fidil
Mary- @lukidog
Susie- @susieq
Wayne- @tophatbanjoPick up notes to start song
number of pickup notes – odd number of notes – to make down bow on main beat
3 pick up notes – all 3 down
Annie stanonous – does this
Bringing in group on song
Red haired boy – 2 pickup notes
Faded love – 2 down bows on 2 different strings
Stanley brothers chop
3 4 5 pickupCan hear E note but nothing above that
Kerfunken jig – squirrel hunter
Hitting 1 string on it’s own difficult
-open strings – look at angle, look away/close eyes
– try it in the dark
-practising scales
-if memorize songs – look where bow hits the strings
-bridge shape/setup – can make a big difference on difference in angle to play each string
Replaced bridge – flat bridge makes double and triple stops easy
Flat bridge hard to playKeeping bow straight – bow slide – can do it when sole concentration – buts creeps when focus on more than that
-multitasking
-film oneself – it shows I am way off than what I think when looking directly
-Mirror tricky illusion
-Comfort compared to out of comfort, what feels natural for arm movement to be and the parallelness being an unnatural feeling
Shoulder bowingDevice called bow right:
Mutes – larger compared to smaller
With and without mute
Take mute off when performing – mute for practise
Little close pinBow hold can help with bow moving more parallel – fingers are anchors and supports in various directions to help with control
Bow hair break, cut hair off instead of pull it off
How long to bows last? Can last awhile, depends on circumstance
-bow types sharedHearing aids distort sound
Dry environment compared to humid
Shoulder rest
Genetically predisposed ?
