Beginner Group Page
What’s this all about?
We casually gather, often with different groups of people each session. Feel free to join us anytime within the hour and leave at your leisure. These are drop-in sessions, so attend any that work for you.
Some main intentions are to:
- meet fellow participants
- engage in discussions about our current musical journeys
- share what’s important for us
Our aim is to simplify the approach to each topic, making it inclusive for everyone, regardless of experience. If possible, bring your instrument(s). We encourage one another to share/demonstrate through playing, and to also try playing skills, methods and songs that arise.
There’s no pressure to contribute during these sessions—some attendees may prefer to listen or have the session playing in the background while pursuing other activities. Join us in whatever way works best for you. Let’s support everyone participating in the session to have an equal chance to share, if they wish to do so.

Zoom setup
We’ll also use this as an opportunity to help you connect with others to form student groups. Being a part of a student group will help you on your fiddle journey:
- Realize you’re not alone in your struggles
- Learn from others (sometimes things that you won’t learn from me or another teacher)
- Keep you practicing consistently
- A fun way to connect with people who are also into fiddling
So we encourage you to trade emails or message people through the FiddleHed Network.
We support everyone in connecting and forming practise groups as they see fit. Please reach out to us anytime to support in joining and forming practise groups, or for anything else.
Thanks for taking part!

Preparation
Here’s some things you can do to prepare:
Warm up
At least 15 minutes before the session starts:
- Play an easy tune or two so that, as FiddleHed Fiona says, you “feel like a fiddler.”
- Scales
- Practice call-and-response.
Breathe
Before the session starts, focus on your breath. Contemplate things you’re grateful for, or any other practice that helps you relax.
Keep an open mind and be nice
You can learn from people who have more as well as less skill than you do. I’m always learning from students!
