Zoom Hangout! in the forum Advanced Beginner Group 3 years, 6 months agoHey, y’all! Based on the feedback so far, I’ve set up a Zoom Hangout for Monday evening, January 23, 8 pm EST. Since I am not a professional member of Zoom this meeting is only scheduled for 40 minutes. I’m not a particularly experienced Zoom Host, but I’ll do my best. All are welcome!

I have to admit that I don’t really know the difference! I just googled so now I have a dictionary definition, but I sure couldn’t listen to a tune and know which one it is. Would you mind sharing a couple good Old Time tunes that you like?

Hi Elise, well the difference between the two is very big, although they both have similar roots. A couple of my favorite old time tunes are Hangman’s Reel and Shove…

I enjoy listening to bluegrass, but enjoy playing old-time.

I prefer Old-Time, but have to learn bluegrass so I can participate in local jams. Locally, I have not found much in the Old-time style. I am in the Knoxville, TN area. If anyone else is in this are and interested in getting together to play, let me know.

Joanne, This was great! One of my all time fave tunes! I like what you did with the hoedown and double stops. And it’s so great that you are playing with a band. I think our musical skills improve tremendously when we have that opportunity! Thanks for sharing!

I took Jason’s version of this & transposed to D Dorian then added some double stops & a hoedown jig inspired by listening to other’s versions. I’ve been playing this with a band lately & finally got a recording from a gig!
