I prefer Old-Time, but have to learn bluegrass so I can participate in local jams. Locally, I have not found much in the Old-time style. I am in the Knoxville, TN area. If anyone else is in this are and interested in getting together to play, let me know. -

Freedom/Graduation from 1.1 in the forum Beginner Group 2 years, 5 months agoYahoo! I completed 1.1.
I decided to remove my fingering assist from the finger board. Freedom. I did not realize how much I was looking at that to find my notes. Now I will be forced to do it by ear. -

OUCH! Nerve pain in finger tip in the forum Beginner Group 2 years, 5 months agoThe other day while playing I got a sharp shooting pain coming from the tip of my left hand index finger. It has been two days since then. The pain is getting less and I have not played since then. My guess is that I push too hard on the strings. Has anyone else had this?

Love this article. I moved out of an area in Florida that only played old time and landing in the middle of bluegrass in East Tennessee. Jam sessions have been an challenge. I never had to play “breaks” or sing before. All new. This article puts is all in perspective. Thanks.

Nice to meet you. I also have been working my way through the beginner lessons and have found so many little gems here. My best Buddy tells me I’m already sounding better after only a few weeks. He’s been playing music (guitar) for over 50 years so I’m pleased with his words. Best of all I love this new musical me.
