Overview
In this lesson I’ll show you four “mini-scale” warmups to help you coordinate the hands, mind and ears. As you’ll see in the lesson, these can be adapted to practice whatever you need to practice, regardless of your skill level.
There’s a lot of creative power in scales. If you tap into that, then you can dramatically improve your skills and have fun along the way.

Learning Steps
Here’s a mini-scale warmup to help you coordinate the hands, mind and ears.
D0-1-2-3-A0-D3-2-1
Once you can do it with flow, then try it with variations that match your skill level like:
- Staccato
- Georgia Shuffle
- Vibrato
Transpose to other strings and scales like D minor.
Remember, Scales don’t have to be torture. If you make the practice fun, then you’re more likely to do it tomorrow.
