I really enjoyed that Dylan! You have a nice tone, and I loved all the double stops. I can see why that song inspired you, it’s beautiful. Thanks for sharing your playing.

Hello AJ, you wrote this a while back, I hope you’re still on Fiddlehed. I am also working on this now. I’ve been playing for almost 1 1/2 years, so still very much working on technique. I am working on relaxing my body while playing, and I hope it will help lighten my touch on the strings. It’s helpful to me to focus my attention on that…[Read more]

Hi, and thanks. That does make sense. I think practice has made the stretch easier, and I could certainly focus on relaxing more. I appreciate your response! Ginny

Isn’t that something? And his feet just want to dance too. I wonder how old he was when he started playing. Thanks for sharing.

Addendum to above question. I can’t reach my third finger while my second finger is on low 2. But if I raise 2nd finger off the string, my third finger reaches. Is that a problem? It seems like it would slow me down. When I get to a level that I can play fast, that is.

Hi everyone, I’m on lesson 1.7 where we learn the low 2. I can get my 3rd finger reach accurately on the E string. But on the other strings I have to slide my fingers up slightly in order to reach the note for the 3rd finger after playing a low 2. I don’t want to create a bad habit. Is it okay to do that? Any ideas on how to correct this? Do…[Read more]

Hi Blucy, I did notice that one one of the songs. I forget which one. I’ll have to start looking for that, as I’m still not finding a download option on the songs. I wonder if something has changed and the songs aren’t downloadable anymore. I’m not the best a technology, but have been trying to do this for a couple of days. Time to forget…[Read more]

Hello, someone mentioned downloading the practice songs so they could play them slower without the tempo speeding up. Does anyone know how to do that. I need to play the songs slowly and am constantly hitting the back arrow to start over. It would be nice to keep going and increase the tempo when I’m ready for it. Thanks.

I love this discussion among us beginners, so many great ideas. And always, thank you Jason. I’ve been playing about nine months, and also had the Don’t Fret thing. It started to bug me because it was bubbling up and I wondered how it was affecting my sound. So I took it off and applied three strips of thin tape, like dress maker tape. Lik…[Read more]

Thanks Moonshadows! Love the support in this forum. I’m reading through everyone’s questions tonight and I’m amazed at the lengths people go to to practice quietly, etc. such dedication, because we love the violin, even though it’s hard. I love the sound it makes. Just resonates with me, and with everyone else on here I’m sure. Cheers!

Thank you both, I really appreciate the feedback. Hearing that it’s okay to slow it down, and do easier intervals is a relief, even though I’ve heard it before. Sometimes you put expectations on yourself. They sneak up on you.
Also, I did get notification that you replied in my email and that was really nice. Thanks!

Question about interval practice: I’m on lesson 1.5 in the interval practice I have such a hard time going from D2 to A2 or D3 to A3, etc. I tried to put my finger on both strings, but it doesn’t seem to land on them right and it feels so awkward. Moving finger back and forth is good practice, but I can’t keep up with the tempo. Appre…[Read more]
