Christmas carol in G Major

Here’s a beginner lesson on how to play Oh Christmas Tree in G Major. This is a sweet melody! Singing the melody will help you to learn the tune.

I’ll also show more advanced students how to fiddlize this by adding some nice double stops.

I’m giving this lesson away for one week after it is published. If you find it to be helpful, please consider subscribing to FiddleHed. Thanks for your support. 🙏

This might help you practice with the Learning Chunks below.

Preparation

Play a G note with a G drone. Allow your breath, body, and mind to relax. Listen to the blend of your fiddle with the drone, and enjoy the sound.

Next, warm up with the G Major scale and phrases from the tune (once you’ve learned it) using the drone above.

  1. I’m wont to return my fiddle. (I know people who want to have a fiddle tuned to a different scale own multiple instruments.)
My fiddle really likes being tuned to G-D-A-E and has asked me never to change it.
I picked up the basic tune of Oh Christmas Tree very quickly but double-stops continue to elude me.
Still, this is an excellent lesson to follow when learning to play double-stops.
    Thanks Jason!
