I have been playing for just about the same amount of time as you (started February 2019), and I feel exactly the same as you about these points. I did have a teacher early on, but I had to give up my lessons because it was a 120 mile drive and I have had an on again/off again shoulder injury, the latter I feel my biggest problem. Have you looked in your area for a teacher? An alternative would be to video yourself and post the videos here asking for technique critiques.
Nicely done, Dina!
I struggle with this as well! One lesson of Jason’s I go back to time and again is his lesson called “Little Lift”. https://fiddlehed.com/beginner/1-2-getting-plucky/little-lift/
The lesson concentrates on accuracy and speed, but I find it wonderful for helping me with a lighter touch.
When I concentrate on “little lift”, my touch becomes much lighter and the notes sound much better. The higher I lift my fingers, the harder I tend to press the strings, and the tension returns.
Hope this helps.
Glad to hear the Bonmusica is helping! 🙂
I use the Holstein rosin, and I haven’t found I have to use anymore than any other rosin I have used. How long have you had your new bow? You will have to use more than the usual amount of rosin on a new bow (in the beginning) than just regular rosining of a bow you have been using for a while.
I like that idea that the fiddle body picks up the tone and you can feel the note.
Yes. I usually take your tabs and write them out on this form. My brain sees the number move up or down the line, and my fingers just adjust. With the form you use (D2-1-0-1-2-2-2), I have to think when I see a new letter. My fingers don’t move “automatically” unless I see it on the tab graph. Not sure what other members would say. Might just be my learning preference.
Yup, saw that. It updated the time, but not that you posted or that you were replying. It also doesn’t bring the reply up to the top of the list (bottom of page). So unless you are keeping track of the times of posts, it doesn’t look like there was a new post/reply.

It took me a while to get used to it, too. I really don’t hear any difference between the Incredibow and my other two horsehair bows. Perhaps a more refined ear than mine would hear a difference.
You would need to upload your recording to a service like YouTube, Clyp, or one of the other ones and then share the address.
Yes! Please do so, Kvmceff.
Yup, I know that, Jason. I probably should have mentioned I just scratch out the A-E-C-G and write in E-A-D-G.
I threw it in Adobe Photoshop just now and edited it to reflect E-A-D-G, so no one gets confused.
My pleasure, Linda. They are very talented and fine young men. I was so impressed with them when I first heard them that I started their Facebook page “Friends of the Sons of Liberty”. Now, Noah manages it with me. I have both their CDs too.
“I’m going to start to make tutorials on how to do this.”
Yes! Please do. I need the tutorials on how to do this.
