should I learn to read musics? I am rather lazy. The tab doesn’t tell you the timing. So I usually listen to the tune several times and the tab guides me and helps me to get started. I just think there is a whole world I can’t tape into unless I read musics, not that I need to be in that world.
Wen, only you can decide if you will benefit by learning to read music. What are your goals with the fiddle? Many people play by ear and never learn to read music. It is not terribly hard to learn but it takes persistence. It is a great skill to have. If you find a section of the tune is hard to hear, you can look at the sheet music for help. I hope to do some lessons on reading music but I don’t know when I will get to it. You might feel more confident about your music it you know the basics of reading music but, again, it is not required. All the lessons have tabs on Fiddlehead.com.
Hi all, I’m new to the site and I love it! I do read music and follow the music rather than the tab, it is much quicker. That being said, one also can benefit greatly by developing playing by Ear! I love the play along tracks , that is mainly the reason I joined the site. Thanks so much, Val
