It just involves sliding your hand up the neck a bit to a different starting position for your fingers. Most fiddle tunes don’t require shifting and you can probably get by on the fiddle for a long long time without ever shifting positions. That said there are loads of videos on youtube that show how to slide up to and use second position. Fiddlehed has one on there too.
